TAKING YOU PETS ONBOARD OUR FERRIES

LD Lines is authorised by the British Department of the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to transport cats and dogs to the United Kingdom in accordance with the Pet Travel Scheme. You may therefore travel on the Norman Spirit with your pets, provided you have the mandatory papers.

Motorised passengers must ensure their animal remains in their vehicle for the duration of the crossing. Reservations must be made online in advance. Foot passengers willing to travel with their pet should book over the phone and bring their own cage. Pets are taken care of by our personnel from check-in to arrival.

Mandatory Documents

(Note: The following papers are mandatory for non-British citizens travelling to the United Kingdom with a pet, and for British citizens returning home with their pet. You must present original documents. Photocopies are not accepted).

A third country certificate or EU passport delivered by your veterinary surgeon certifying the efficacy of the anti-rabies vaccine. Note: This certificate must be delivered less than 6 months after the blood sample is taken. The blood sample must be taken at least 6 months before your travel date.
A certificate of treatment for ectoparasites and endoparasites (ticks and tapeworms) published by the Ministry for Agriculture and Fishing and delivered by your veterinary surgeon must be recorded on the passport. Note: The animal must travel (boat departure time) no less than 24 hours and no more than 48 hours after the treatment is administered.
Computer identity chip. The animal must have a subcutaneous computer identity chip fitted by your veterinary surgeon.

Certain breeds of dog reputed to be dangerous are not allowed on British soil.

Currently, a limit of five pets per person is applicable for entries of pets into the UK from listed non-EU countries, whereas an unlimited amount of pets may enter from EU Member States. As of 26th May 2010, a limit of five pets will be implemented for pet dogs, cats and ferrets entering into or moving between EU Member States, including the UK, as stated in Commission Regulation (EU) No 388/2010 of 6th May 2010. Please note that any person responsible for a pet/pets must be 16 years old or over. As an authorised pet carrier it is your responsibility to ensure that this condition of the pet travel scheme is adhered to.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the documents in your possession are valid. If not, we would be obliged to refuse to embark your pet. LD Lines cannot be held responsible for an error made by you or your veterinary surgeon that led to a refusal to embark your pet.
We require that you inform us of your intention to embark a pet when you make your reservation, and to check in with the animal on the day of departure at least 90 minutes before sailing time. Otherwise, for operational reasons, we could find it necessary to refuse the embarkation of your pet.
